This scholarship was established in 1991 to honor the memory of Estelle Martin Cartledge whose selfless service and constant teachings were an enduring source of strength and inspiration. The Fund will serve young people in Morning Star Baptist Church, Mon-View Heights and the Mon-Valley community.

Eligibility Criteria

The applicant must be a high school graduate, have a strong academic record and be accepted or currently enrolled in a 4-year institution of higher education. Applicant should ideally also have a sustained (1 year or more) involvement in humanitarian service projects.  This does not include paid employment but may include church work, community service projects and tutoring. Preference is given to residents of the Mon Valley (Rankin, Turtle Creek, Braddock, North Braddock, Homestead, Duquesne, Monongahela and West Mifflin) and Morning Star Baptist Church attendees. African American students are strongly encouraged to apply


Scholarship Amount

POISE grants one Estelle Martin Cartledge Memorial scholarship annually, approximately $1,300.
